Our team started by the usual comparison analysis of similar institutional websites and by researching - alongside with the client - for which features would be the most important and useful for visitors and drivers.
It quickly became apparent that an interactive map with real-time information would be essential. This map should not only exhibited the typical freeway layout and location but specially important informations such as roadblocks, incidents and CCTV real-time images.
Our analysis showed that competitor's websites had interactive maps that, despite having less information, didn't functioned properly. The experience was laggy and dragging the map was simply an impossible task. Overlaying pins and objects over a Google Map can be a tricky task specially if we're dealing with a large quantity.
Our engineering team was able to implement the interactive map with all the necessary pins and filters, allowing users to view real-time CCTV cameras of around 60 points of the freeway.
Other important features included the notice board of planned road works and weekly balances of incidents.
The overall look of the website also reflected the client's desire to maintain a certain formality and compliance with the concession's public contract while differentiating themselves and presenting an innovative modern image.
